TPP Passes Second Reading – From Perspective of US Citizen Living in New Zealand

Posted by | Uncategorized | 0 |

The TPP bill presented to Parliament passed its second reading here in New Zealand yesterday. A similar trade agreement has been signed into law in Brussels that involves Canada and the EU.
Listening to discussions in the parliament on the radio this morning I was struck by how civil discussions are in comparison to current political discussions in Congress in the United States. In short, I felt glad made to be here. Just as one observes in Canada, political affairs are still productive and constructive and progressive ideas can be challenged by those who are more conservative. And conservative ideas can be challenged by those with other views. There is debate and it does get loud but the Speaker keeps order and the system seems to function. I am all for unicameral parliamentary systems.
